Introduction

            Having a good classroom management plan is a key part of being an effective teacher. I have three aspects that I find to be the most important for classroom management. The first is to create a positive classroom environment. The second is to continue to engage with the student’s parents. Lastly, I want to strongly implement procedures in my classroom.

Positive Classroom Environment

            I believe that it is very important to create a positive environment for students. When students feel comfortable and safe they will have an easier time learning. I want my students to know that I believe in them, so they will also believe that they can succeed. “Years of research and practical classroom experience clearly show that students do better when more is expected of them and their teachers have positive expectations” (Wong 49). I will promote a positive environment for students to feel supported by both myself and their fellow classmates.

Parent Engagement

            It is important to keep parents informed with what is happening with their child, because this creates trust between both parties. You want the parents to feel welcomed into the classroom because they are trusting you with their child. It is important to give positive feedback about a child to their parent instead of only contacting them about something negative. “…plan to make two positive contacts with parents each day through phone calls, notes, or emails” (Canter 103). Creating a strong relationship with the parents will be even more important if a problem occurs with the student. This will mean that both parent and teacher will have an easier time coming up with a solution for the student.

Implement Procedures

It is important to have a thought out set of procedures that are implemented daily in the classroom. Having procedures help the efficiency of the classroom. “Following procedures will help them do their work with less confusion and thus help them succeed” (Wong 145). Procedures help the environment to become productive. Students actually like to have procedures that are put in place because they actually benefit them.

Conclusion

            Having a plan of what you want to implement in your teaching is important because it makes you prepared to handle situations. These three aspects that I spoke of are important to me for my classroom management. I plan to use each of these when I become a teacher.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
